You may want to consider alternating strength training days. So rather than doing a total body workout every two days, do an upper body workout on Monday, a Lower Body/Core Strength workout on Wednesday, and another Upper Body workout on Friday. Then the following week, alternate so you do two Lower Body/Core Strength workouts and an Upper Body workout. This way you will give some time between workouts to actually heal. Keep in mind that it is the healing process that increases strength and lean muscle mass. The actual workout is a destructive process its the healing that is constructive.
